• 强碱:氢氧化钡是一种强碱，化学式Ba(OH)2，白色无定形粉末状固体，有毒! 极易吸收空气中的二氧化碳生成碳酸钡，相对密度为4.50，350℃时熔化，600℃以上时分解。溶于水，难溶于乙醇、乙醚和丙酮。在水溶液中析出的结晶为Ba(OH)2·8H2O，它是无色单斜晶体，相对密度为2.18 (16℃)，熔点为78℃，在780℃时失去全部结晶水。 氢氧化钡可由氯化钡与氢氧化钠作用制得。其反应式如下：BaCl2+2NaOH→Ba(OH)2+2NaCl 工业品氢氧化钡〔Ba(OH)2·8H2O〕含量：一级≥98%，二级≥96%。 氢氧化钡主要用于石油工业的添加剂和动植物油的精制，也用于钡盐的制造，合成橡胶的硬化剂、排除锅炉水垢、玻璃成分、水的软化以及医药、塑料、玻璃、搪瓷等工业。氢氧化钡还可用做定量分析的标准碱，测定二氧化碳的含量等。 氢氧化钡应密封贮存于干燥库房中，不可与酸类物品共贮混运。
