方法一:1.氢溴酸法　由月桂醇（正十二醇）与氢溴酸作用而得。将月桂醇加入搪瓷玻璃反应锅，搅拌冷却，慢慢加入硫酸。搅拌1h，再加入氢溴酸。温度逐渐提高到90-95℃，搅拌反应8h。反应完毕，降温至30℃静置8h 。分出酸层，油层用稀碱液调节pH至8，分去碱液，以50%乙醇洗涤。减压蒸馏，收集140-200℃（3.33kPa）馏分得精制的1-溴十二烷。2.溴化钠法3.溴化法
用途三:用作溶剂，还可用于合成阻燃剂三（十二烷基硫醇）锑、抗氧剂十二烷基硫醇、表面活性剂十二烷基二甲基苄基氯化氨（洁尔灭）、苯扎溴铵，以及其他阻燃剂和表面活性剂等。
