生产方法:异氰酸甲酯法邻异丙氧基苯酚的制备将1mol 2-溴丙烷慢慢滴入正在回流的1mol邻苯二酚、2mol碳酸钾、丁酮和相转移催化剂的混合液中，滴毕继续回流反应一定时间，然后蒸出绝大部分丁酮，加入足量的水溶解固体盐，再以苯萃取，萃取液用稀氢氧化钠溶液萃取，萃取液用稀盐酸中和后，再用苯萃取，氯化钙干燥，蒸出大部分苯，减压收集84～86℃/333.3Pa的馏分。得无色透时邻异丙氧基苯酚，n 25 D 1.5131，产率>;60%。异氰酸甲酯的制备见甲萘威的制备方法。残杀威的合成将1mol邻异丙氧基苯酚溶于二噁烷中。加入1mol缚酸剂，在搅拌下分次加入1mol的固体甲氨基甲酰氯，室温搅拌1h，然后将混合液倾入冰水中，充分搅拌，结晶完全后抽滤，并用冷水、石油醚洗涤，干燥后得残杀威，产率75%，熔点90.5～91℃。国外文献报道，残杀威多采用异氰酸酯法生产，即将邻异丙氧基苯酚与异氰甲酯在二噁烷溶剂中，加数滴三乙胺作催化剂反应制得。经洗涤、干燥、重结晶后制得残杀威，收率84%。氯甲酸酯法先合成异丙氧基氯甲酸酚酯，再胺解合成残杀威。两步反应均在低温下进行。

用途:速效、长残效氨基甲酸酯类杀虫剂，具有触杀、胃毒和熏蒸作用，无内吸作用。主要用于防治水稻螟虫、稻叶蝉、稻飞虱、棉蚜、果树介壳虫、锈壁虱、杂粮害虫和卫生害虫。用药量3～7.5g有效成分/100m 2 ，一般使用含量为0.03%～0.075%。例如防治水稻叶蝉、稻飞虱，用2%～3%粉剂225～338g/100m 2 喷粉，或以0.05%～0.1%含量的乳剂喷雾，或用4%颗粒剂300～338g进行防治。防治水稻螟虫，用15%乳油稀释400倍液喷雾。
20℃水中溶解度约0.2%，溶于大多数有机溶剂。在强碱性介质中不稳定。
外观性质:白色结晶粉末，稍带特殊气味。
毒性:雄性大鼠急性经口LD 50 为90～128mg/kg，雌性为104mg/kg，雄性小鼠为100～109mg/kg。大鼠急性经皮LD 50 为800～1000mg/kg。大鼠2年饲喂试验无作用剂量为800～1000mg/kg饲料。鲤鱼LC 50 >10mg/L。燕八哥急性经口LD 50 为15～30mg/kg。对蜜蜂高毒。
