• 本品为解毒药，主要用于含砷或含汞毒物的解毒，也可用于某些重金属（如铋、锑、镉等）的中毒。2，3-二巯基丙醇与路易斯气反应，生成稳定、不溶而无毒的砷化合物。因此被称为英国抗路易斯气剂。与二巯基丙醇解毒作用相似的品种是二巯基丁二酸钠（C4H4Na2O4S2）。也用作光度法测定铜。
